EVENT DETAILS

Location: Glen Affric National Nature Reserve, Highland

Date: Saturday 28 May 2022 at 10.30am

Description:

An 18km (11-mile) leisurely circuit around Loch Affric, passing through a stunning mosaic of regenerating Caledonian pine forest, surrounded by craggy peaks patrolled by golden eagles. Glen Affric is at the core of one of Scotland’s most ambitious nature recovery areas.

Affric Highlands is a 30-year landscape-scale rewilding initiative brought to life by a coalition of landowners and communities, who share a vision of restoration and recovery – to expand nature across neighbouring glens and in doing so, create prosperous and healthy communities across the region.

Affric Highlands recently became the ninth member of Rewilding Europe’s nature recovery network, which includes Portugal’s Greater Côa Valley, the Danube Delta and Romania’s Southern Carpathians.

The terrain is generally flat and provides relatively easy walking using established trails. There will be areas of wetter ground and parts that are uneven. Along the way, our guides will interpret the landscape and provide an insight into how rewilding might shape this area in the future.

Registration fee: £30

Includes: Pre-walk information, expert knowledge along the way.

Fundraising:

SCOTLAND: The Big Picture works to drive the recovery of nature across Scotland through rewilding, in response to the growing climate and biodiversity crises.

Our Walks for Wilding are part of our fundraising programme and all proceeds from this event will be invested in our work. In addition to your registration fee, we would ask you to make every effort to generate sponsorship and suggest a target of £200 for each walker.
