INVERSNAID LODGE
Inversnaid Lodge lies on the east side of Loch Lomond in the iconic landscape of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. It is centred on a historic hunting lodge that overlooks the loch and now operates as an ecotourism venue, hosting courses and experiences focused on nature, sustainability and environmental awareness. In addition to holding remnants of ancient Atlantic oak woodland, the landholding is a mosaic of pasture, bracken-covered slopes and rocky outcrops that create a landscape of outstanding beauty and ecological potential.
To date, the rewilding focus has been on eradicating invasive non-native plants in the vicinity of the lodge, particularly Rhododendron ponticum, contributing to the restoration of Scotland’s temperate rainforest.
Key rewilding commitments:
- MORE NATIVE WOODLAND: Encourage natural woodland regeneration, including through the enrichment planting of native tree species.
- MORE SPACE FOR WATER: Create new ponds and leaky dams to increase the amount of standing water on site, improving habitat for wildlife and increasing climate resilience.
- JOINED UP HABITATS: Remove redundant fencing and infrastructure (where appropriate) to facilitate wildlife movement.
- LET NATURE LEAD: Proactively continuing to remove invasive, non-native plant species.
- CREATE REWILDING BUSINESS: Develop an enterprise that demonstrates the positives of learning to work with nature.
