BECOME A REWILDING CHAMPION
Set yourself a fundraising challenge to support rewilding in Scotland
How far would YOU go to help nature recover?
Taking on a fundraising challenge is one of the most powerful ways to support rewilding in Scotland. It can be big or small – from a bake sale to an epic journey – whatever feels fun, motivating and manageable for you.
It’s also a chance to create meaningful memories, reclaim time for doing what you love – and yes, earn some bragging rights along the way.
Not sure where to begin? These stories show what’s possible when people choose to show up – for rewilding, and for themselves.
Jake Evans
“I’ve wrestled with depression on and off over the years. I always find getting out in nature is hugely beneficial when my mood is tanking.”
This winter, Jake is attempting something that has never been done before: a full traverse of the Scottish Watershed in one winter. The 1,200km route follows the highest line through Scotland – its mountainous spine – weaving through some of the wildest parts of the country.
For Jake, this challenge is about looking after his mental health through the grounding power of wild landscapes. It’s a lived example of why restoring nature matters not just for ecosystems, but for people too.
His challenge is ongoing as you read this – why not cheer him on with a donation.
Christina Sinclair
There was sweat, blood, tears, bruises and many, many midge bites – but every step felt like an absolute privilege.”
After years of chronic osteoarthritis, Christina thought her hiking days were begind her. Two hip replacements later, she decided never to take her mobility for granted again – and solo backpacked 300km across Scotland to reclaim her health and connection with nature. Along the way, she raised over £3,000 for nature-based causes, including our Loch Abar Mòr nature restoration partnership.
What sparked your challenge?
The idea came together in the pub – as many good ideas do. I grew up near the West Highland Way and always dreamed of a thru-hike. When surgery finally became a reality, I realised I could bring all those threads together into one meaningful challenge.
Advice for others?
Choose a challenge that’s personal and meaningful to you. You’ll get more out of it – and others will feel that authenticity too.
Libby Watkinson
“It’s been such a great ride – and so inspiring to meet the people making rewilding happen. I’ve been blown away by people’s generosity.”
Libby combined her love of cycling with her passion for nature by riding 329 miles across our Northwoods Rewilding Network. After attending a learning day at Northwoods site Argaty Red Kites, and seeing what rewilding can achieve, the idea just clicked. Powered by long days in the saddle and hope for a wilder future, Libby raised over £2,000. Along the way, she witnessed nature recovery in action and met the passionate people making it happen.
Why rewilding?
In the face of endless negative news, rewilding offers something rare: a positive, practical vision for the future. Supporting that felt genuinely hopeful.
Top tip?
Pick something you already love doing. Make it fun. And don’t be afraid to ask for support – the SBP team made the whole process feel achievable from day one.
Your turn!
It’s easy to think, ‘I’m just one person — what difference can I make?’ But these stories remind us that it’s not whether one person can make a difference – it’s how.
If you’d like a ready-made way to get started, why not join an organised event like a Kiltwalk, or choose a run, ride, swim or triathlon through findarace.com.
Or tell us your own idea – big or small. We’ll support you with fundraising tips, encouragement and a free SBP T-shirt!
Funds raised through challenges like these play a vital role in making rewilding happen across Scotland, and we’re deeply grateful for the commitment and generosity behind them.
